Anyone who wants to divide a house and create condominiums in the future must have this approved by the authorities. The Senate hopes that the trend towards conversion into condominiums will be slowed. This does not apply to small houses with up to 5 apartments and houses whose tenants want to buy 2/3 of their apartments themselves.
The new regulation was made possible by the recently passed building land mobilization law at federal level. It allows the federal states to designate areas with a tight housing market until 2025.
In 2020, around 18,800 conversions were registered. That was around 6,000 more than in the previous year.
